There’s already someone in the thread making a case about it. Let’s forget about all the people that tried to escape Communist Germany. And forget my friends from Russia that escaped communism to live a better life here. They’re all brainwashed by evil capitalism.

The US and Adenauer (German chancellor) cared more about West integration than unity. In school we read about Adenauer telling British ambassador that this is the case. Stalin ironically would have preferred unity capitalist Germany which is demilitarized over what actually happened but he passed away so

Stalin offered to reunite Germany with the only two conditions being that they had to be disarmed and have free elections. The US refused.
