To be more precise, they're getting rid of the custom CSS system of subreddits and opting for a more uniform system via modtools. This is so that subreddits will look better on their ~~garbage~~ mobile apps.

Many subreddits utilize CSS for spoiler tags, custom flairs, comment faces/emotes, banners, and just about whatever the fuck else they want to do. Now, they'll have to wait for the admins to implement these features into Reddit itself. And judging by how often the search function breaks down, I'm not expecting the best.

It's like taking away a painter's canvas, and handing them a pack of stickers instead.

But what do I know; I'm just a poweruser. Curious to hear what our mods think about this.

It's pretty frustrating to see that Medo's work is all for nothing.

Spez says "oh it's not for nothing, it got us here" is such an out of touch thing to say. If all of the work will be removed eventually, it was for nothing. His four excuses for why they are replacing CSS is baffling.

There's so many subreddits that require special CSS for how they function but with this it's going to change things drastically in a way I can't see positively.

We were very disheartened to see the news.

Remember when DIGG changed its layout and everyone hated it. Yeah that.

Like I get that they are changing the DOM for the whole site so CSS would break, but why not leave it as an option regardless.

While I think a subreddit does need to be able to stand on its own two legs without special formatting and toys to keep it interesting, this is certainly a disappointing bit of news. The main style for this subreddit is pretty nice and it would be cool to keep it around indefinitely somehow. Doesn't sound like it'll be feasible though.

I guess this really depends on how in depth the tools are. You can bullshit your way through a lot with css if you try hard enough. I just hope they try and over deliver on the number of tools you get

Reddit admin is focused on SJW shit. They are making bad decision on a near constant level, even going so far as to remove their legal protections when u/spez was caught altering user posts.

The admins, especially spez, have done some extremely dumb and very public things. The reddit censorship scandals during multiple terror attacks became international news. FFS, they were removing posts about where to go for victim reunification and blood donation. Then when called on it, they blamed the users and said the posts were removed because of racism and a bunch of other bullshit. Tge truth was they were trying to silence the news about islamic terror attacks that didnt conform to their narrative and frankly, made obama look bad and trump look good.

When you put ideologues in charge of shit, shit ALWAYS goes bad.
