So, I'd like to cancel my planet fitness membership, since they're big MAGA donors. Can I quote the Right of Cancelation statue to get out of it?

I've been a member for 4 months.

Planet Fitness has been the easiest to cancel gym membership I've ever dealt with; you shouldn't need to quote them anything. I literally just canceled through the app the other day.

Anytime Fitness during COVID was another story entirely though.

You can, you might have to explain it to them though.

Also the CS rep isn't the owner, be nice to them.

Guessing you have a year contract? Based on this law you’re not entitled to a refund as it’s been four months. Also you’ll like get a cancellation fee. But you can certainly cancel.

The statute listed, says you have until midnight of the 3rd day, you indicated that you're about 120 days in. So no, you can't force them to cancel your contract. Your best bet is using their equipment and services as much as possible. Take long hot showers every time you go, if you have the premium plan, use all the extra lounge items as much as possible, if they have any food nights, participate and make sure others do, too. Then cancel as soon as the contract is done, without letting it roll over.

Just change your home gym to any random one in California, then immediately cancel it online. Perfect hack for PF

Did you not even read this before you posted it. This says you have three days after signing up. You’re well past that.

Just cancel your membership the normal way.

Umm. No? What language in this gets you out of your contract?

I wrote a letter to cancel and then it sat around for three months. I finally mustered up the courage to just go in and cancel. I was ready to get defensive assuming they’d push me to stay. It was the complete opposite and they were super nice. Just go in and say you want to cancel. It took maybe 5 minutes

I had a membership at the Ridgedale location and just went in and they did it for me.

I walked into my PF gym (Roseville) and cancelled in person. The CS Rep had to quiz me about why I was cancelling and try to upsell me, but I got out of there in 10 minutes. I’d give that a try before going a more litigious route—potentially invoking laws means you get escalated to legal/district manager/etc which could end up taking more of your time. If you get rebuffed at the desk, then you can escalate.

I canceled on their website just a couple of weeks ago, you shouldn’t need to jump through hoops anymore.

I had to send a letter certified to get them to cancel. They ignored the normal mail letter.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but if you login to your account through their website, not the app, you can cancel right there. I did it just a few days ago.

Read your last sentence and then the statute, slowly this time.

Good now stop buying unnecessary shit that pads the wallets of Elon and Bezos. Stop buying overpriced housing. Stop buying Camrys for 40-50. It’s easy to do things as you are going to do, but if you want to make a REAL Impact, stop buying shit you do not need right now!

Last year I changed my address to one being in California and was able to cancel through the website. I’m glad to hear MN is adopting this law

Planet Fitness doesn't have contracts. Just go into the location you signed up and tell them you are canceling. It's quick and simple.

Planet Fitness isn't so bad, but LA Fitness and Lifetime are pretty annoying, and despite the statute, they have legal precedent in this state upholding their contract cancellation clause of charging double membership.

The Biden administration created the "click-to-cancel" rule last year, which made it so you shouldn't have to jump through hoops or talk to a rep to cancel common subscriptions.

Discovered it when canceling SiriusXm was as easy as just using their website chatbot a couple weeks ago. Much better than a few years back - which was having to speak live with a rep and a ten-minute script of various offers before they would hit that cancel button.
