View submission: A New Fusionism - First Things
In "A New Fusionism," R. R. Reno discusses the unexpected political alliance between tech entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and populist conservatives during the 2024 elections. He observes that figures from Silicon Valley, traditionally seen as liberal strongholds, are now expressing concerns about the nation's direction and opposing the liberal establishment. Reno references Marc Andreessen's "The Techno-Optimist Manifesto," which criticizes centralized planning and the pervasive pessimism in current societal narratives. While Reno, as a social conservative, disagrees with some of Andreessen's views, he acknowledges a shared dissatisfaction with the prevailing cultural and political climate, suggesting the potential for a new ideological fusion.

Taking politics out of it, it is quite common for people who are intelligent in one area to assume they are therefore right in all areas.
