Why does the “fat, sweaty, four-eyed sarcastic neckbeard” stereotype exist when it comes to gamers/fandoms?

Typically it refers to the overweight autistic gamer obsessed with thinking they're smarter than most while having flawless logic about women (aka "females") but having little emotional regulation ability or social skills and can't process or handle the reality that they treat women as objects in their master plan.

Been into LARPing, DnD, video games and nerd culture my whole life. There's a not insignificant amount of them.

But obviously not all. Im 145 lbs at 6'2, don't wear glasses, shower daily, and try my best to treat my girlfriend well.

Those guys are real and they basically dominated internet culture in the 80's, 90's and early 00's. These days everybody else grows up on the internet too so the neckbeards are not as prevalent.

Captain obvious here;

Because they as well are men of culture with commendable recreational activities and know what the m'ladys prefer in the male esthetical representation. I tip my fedora to you.

I truly am overweight, wear glasses and have a neckbeard. I like gaming. I wear baseball caps though.

Because typically someone who stays at home all day obsessed with something will likely get fat and have bad social skills. Everyone knows it's not even most fans, but every fandom has people like that in it. Whether it's videogames or sports there's always that guy

So… it’s not that if you’re a gamer you’re more likely to become a fat neckbeard who smells bad.

But if you’re a fat neckbeard who smells bad, you’re probably more likely to find entertainment from video games and Reddit fandom subs, than going to clubs or playing basketball with friends.

So people who have the time to sit around and be really obsessive about those activities, might be that way. Not all of course.

They are generally insults to people who are heavily invested or addicted gamers. Although some stereotypes are getting backed by studies, people choose to generalize the numbers.
