View submission: Principal doesn’t like me
Had a similar situation. Had a principal who REALLY didn’t like me, and poisoned our new superintendent to believe that, when the school had to layoff positions due to decreasing enrolment, it was the right thing to release me, a 19 year vet, instead of the 5 year new hire, because I lacked “the qualifications, experience or ability to teach any other subjects” (NEWS FLASH: I am retiring from the same division next year… my former admin got busted back down to the classroom, and the teacher he kept over me is in the midst of being investigated for assaulting a student, amongst other things…). I was told by a superintendent friend that not including your current principal on your resume was a HUGE red flag, so against my better judgment, I kept him on there.
I later found out from friends in other divisions where I had applied that he tanked at least two reference calls for me, with the calls being characterized as “brief, disinterested and overwhelmingly uninspiring”.
So…. Be prepared.

I had the same thing happen, for the opposite reason. I was teaching in a max security treatment facility, and after 3 years in that hellhole I was applying for every job that came along. The facility director didn't want me to leave, so he deliberately tanked every reference call he got. Finally one of the places where I was on the verge of being hired, so freaking close, told me that he'd trashed me in the reference. I ended up staying in the hellhole for another 2 years because I was convinced I couldn't leave without another job lined up. Finally, after having a major mental health breakdown, and after a group of students told me in detail how they planned to gang rape me, I left without a job. It was really hard, and took me years to get back on my feet, but it was worth it. Looking back, I should have left when he trashed me. When I was applying for jobs after that I gave the names of other employees as references, and explained that the director held a grudge for me leaving. I was able to bypass him entirely that way. Good luck...I hope you get a great job.
