View submission: What drives you to stay teaching?

The schedule. I left teaching, and one of the big reasons I came back for was the schedule. The breaks, no nights and weekends, and can go home at four. I love having a “start” and “end” point to my work year. Very good for my mental health, it makes me feel like I’m not working my life away.

I also like that each year I get a new group of students. I couldn’t imagine working for decades in the same space with the same co-workers all day. Some of my colleagues get on my nerves now and I only have to see them during meetings and PDs!!

People who have left bend in all sorts of pretzel logic to try to say that they work better hours. Lol wut?? 250 days a year vs. 180?!?!

But don’t you end up working a ton of nights and weekends at home? I sure do.

Wish had no nights and weekends as a teacher. I’m working seven days a week.
