View submission: Explain Like I’m Five: What Do Superintendents Actually Do?
A thankless job? They’re paid around a quarter million dollars a year, someone is thanking them.

In my district, the superintendent is paid more than that. It’s just under $400k. Insanity.

It's also a job that is hard to do well and literally is a 24/7 type of job. I know my Super spends weekends fielding calls from BOE members who saw something stupid on Facebook and want him to check it out.

Considering the jobs workload and scale school districts operate at that isnt a lot of money. The super in my district makes a similar salary. But even In my fairly small district of 7k students, 12 schools, 5 behind the scenes facilities, and 600ish employees. We still have a 175 million dollar a year operating budget. In the private sector the CEO of an organization that large would be making a hell of a lot more than 250k.

They literally work around the clock. They should be paid according to the division size.

Only a quarter of a million? My old district’s superintendent was closer to half a million
Principals made a quarter of a million… oh wait, and my old district was almost 200 million dollars in debt. Wonder why?
