I've heard this before but it's not a good idea. Lets say the guy who made minecraft got control of the subreddit and decided to ban anyone who criticized the game. Would that be a good thing?

It's a good point, in general, but in this specific case, it's definitely the lesser of two evils. /u/soccer has the AutoModerator automatically deleting directly relevant content[1] to the main subject of the subreddit.
