View submission: Disagreement in /r/xkcd after Randall fires shots through the friendzone
The problem is that there's a certain population of men who honestly view "girls say they want a nice guy" as meaning that "nice guy" is the only criterion on which they would possibly be judged.
When *anyone* says "I want someone [insert characteristic here]" they mean they want that in *addition* to things like "being physically attractive." When a guy says he wants a nerdy girl (or a girl says she wants a nerdy guy) he's not saying he'll date any nerdy girl who crosses his path, he's saying it's a *plus*.
Being "nice" is the bare goddamned minimum. If you don't have more in a relationship to offer than that, you're not going to get anyone who themselves has more good qualities than "she's nice."
