Skeen[1], the founder and top moderator of /r/atheism[2] had been derelict in his modship duties. As such, he was removed of his mod rights via a request to the admins by moderator Jij[3].
Soon after, Jij ~~, now the top mod,~~ added a rule to reduce the number of image posts on the front page and improve the content mix: direct link image posts are not allowed, but links to images in self-posts are. The rule denies karma to users posting images, and makes the opening of image posts a little more clunky (2-clicks vs. 1-click).
To put it lightly, a group of people have been vocally protesting this change. One of the methods of protest has been to camp out in /r/atheism/new and downvote everything other than complaints, thereby breaking the sub. This method yielded an amazing front page last Sunday, when every single post was a complaint (if anyone has an image I can link to, I would appreciate it!). In the face of this onslaught, Jij made a post suggesting he was ready to concede.
But then today, a few new things[4] happened:

Having lost their outlet, the complainers have channeled their anger at /r/atheismrebooted[7], a schism sub created soon after the new rule was put in place.
I allowed myself to get usurped through ignorance and foolish trust, and now the sub is in the hands of power-drunk morons.
Doxing is about the only thing we can do. Death threads are a bad thing and are not acceptable in any way. But if you destroy an online community you should at least expect that you get doxed. It does not hurt you much but a society without the ability to punish does not work. We are perfectly powerless so we need to do everything we can.
"If I would know who [jij] is I would personaly start a page on encyclopedia dramatica."
PS. /r/atheismpolicy[9] is looking pretty good too!

Once this is all finished one way or the other, I think I might be done with SubredditDrama, because nothing will ever top the madness that has infected r/atheism.

It would appear that there are a total of 17 mods now[1].

Yep, and now after this post[1] in /r/atheismrebooted, the masses of /r/atheismrebooted have taken to /r/atheism to post links about how atheists are 'censored'. Including here[2] with /u/syncretic2 commenting on one.

It will be interesting to see how the mods /r/atheism handle these 'censorship' posts.

This drama is the best thing I've ever seen.
edit: I hope Jij doesn't back down but I do feel the new mods are all kind of in-crowd-y. Were they active on /r/atheism before?

I felt physically sick at having the one subreddit I could visit, be crippled.[1] (+5/-1)

The post above also features a rather thoughtful essay on the changes.

If you filter out all the morons complaining about the new rules, the frontpage of /r/atheism looks better and more substantive than I've ever seen it. I might even re-subscribe after all this foolishness subsides.

Hitler post inbound:
Because of the flood of /r/atheism drama, we're temporarily tagging drama regarding /r/atheism as "Low-Hanging Fruit." Soon as the shitfit calms down, we'll stop the tagging.
EDIT: I'm referring to /r/atheism's shitfit. SRD is not having a shitfit, just an overdose of popcorn.

Fom an atheismrebooted thread:
TheFost[S]
The protestors have surrounded Hitler's bunker and he just swallowed his cyanide.
Yup, completely reasonable, you bet.

It's impressive how quickly the internet mobilizes over having to click one more time. Now if they only directed that energy TOWARDS SOMETHING THAT FUCKING MATTERS.

Whoo boy. Just took a look through that subreddit and stumbled on /u/HappyGoPink.
I think this is all that's needed to explain what a "wonderful" person she is
Who are you calling a child, pipsqueak? I'm old enough to be your grandmother, in all likelihood.
And don't dismiss children, you condescending fuck.

I think the funnier bit of drama is that they're flooding the sub with posts about censorship and the new mods don't seem to have noticed.

Anyone that is involved in doxxing of any kind should be banned from Reddit.
Also I think this whole thing has proved that atheists aren't the enlightened ubermensch that /r/atheism seems to think they are, only Christians are illogical and violent, eh?
