Wanting to move on from Windows10 and trying to figure out what flavor of Linux to choose.

95% of my PC time is spent gaming. I also run VMs for training and browse the internet on occasion.

I need to know if SteamOS will accomplish the following:

-Connect to my Oculus Quest 2 VR headset

-Run VorpX, Virtual Desktop, ALVR, or any other VR desktop projection software (I know SteamVR exists but it doesn't meet my needs)

-Run Oracle VirtualBox or any other virtualization software

-Run a Logitech gaming wheel

Real question is does all the software you mention exist in Linux version.

If YES. it does. SteamOS supports VR as Steam does, but outside of it, if there isnt enough Linux software for it - likely it does not.

First of all, what's your GPU?

Also, SteamOS 3 does not have a generic release currently, so use Bazzite[1] instead.

Yes you can use ALVR with Linux. I use it almost every day.

This is less a question of SteamOS and more a question of Linux. VR is a bit more difficult to run, but is doable with things like ALVR. You can even go through some rigamarole to get VorpX to run through Proton. Proton is a compatibility tool that allows Windows games to run on Linux, and essentially places games into “containers”. You have to rethink how games are installed and how other tools access them. VirtualBox and the like also usually have Linux versions.

I’m trying nobara right now. Pretty solid choice for gaming.
