Congrats on your upgrade to the Sega Nomad. Hell of a device. Plays almost all the original Genesis carts, except for some early third party titles.

This is an appropriate analogy. The Sega Nomad was one of if not the first of its kind. It was a portable console supporting an already strong library of games that could be connected to a tv and also supported a second player. The Nomad was so far ahead of its time, it only lasted a few hours at best on the limited battery tech and limited efficiency at the time.
OP, please consider having a knowledgeable tech test and/or replace the capacitors in that Nomad. It is not a matter of if, but WHEN those capacitors go bad, they can destroy the board in what is a dwindling number of Nomads.

Ironically, the battery life is probably about the same.

I was just thinking about the Nomad yesterday. I always wanted a Game Gear and a Nomad but never had one. Now I have a Steamdeck, and I was imaging how it would blow my mind if I had seen this back then.

The funny thing is now that I've been in a steam deck for a while and seen much more into the mod community - there are definitely people that could get that nomad to run any modern game at full settings...
(moonlight allowing it to play any high-end game streaming off of your computer)

This is seriously a great comparison (not being sarcastic) because purely from an inflation perspective, the Nomad (which released in 1997 for $179[1]) is pretty close (in price, not specs) to the lowest-level Steam Deck at launch:
1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_Nomad
If the same console launched at $399 in 1997, that'd be equivalent to $727 in 2022 dollars (which isn't far off from what I paid for my 512 GB LCD 3 years ago!).
The more things change, the more they stay the same!

Of course it's an upgrade, Nomad stomps the Deck on modern AAAs.
