Haven’t been downtown in awhile? Go check it out! I’m writing this from Goodpress at the 21c hotel and wow! This place is insanely cool! If you want a successful St. Louis for your grandchildren head downtown, grab dinner/coffee/beers/lunch! Maybe even consider moving yourself or your business downtown!

Have a great week!

When you all come down for a Blues game, or Cardinals game, or CITY game, or Battlehawks game, take a look around. Find a unique spot. Even if you just walk in our parks. People downtown makes a downtown thrive! Good things are happening all around the city, but you can't have a successful region as a whole, unless you have a successful urban core.

Yes, my wife and I ate there the following night after we moved into the Washington Ave. Loft District. Beautiful place and the food was good too. It all really happened so fast. We didn't start looking until after Thanksgiving, and we're now moved in a week ago last Friday. We Love It! Downtown has really gotten a bad rep. The largest asset to our consideration was looking at the comments from ppl who actually live downtown. As long as you are city smart and use common sense (don't go down dark allies alone at night, know where to go and where not to go, etc.) you will be fine. There are good buildings and bad buildings, good blocks and bad blocks. I have met ppl who have lived down here for years without issue. Plus, the reason why we also wanted to move here is downtown looks to be on an upward trajectory as in improvements, new business, and culture, despite the news of some businesses pulling out of downtown. Take it for what you will, just a few thoughts from someone who has recently made the downtown loft district their new home.

Just spent a night at 21c with my family for a mini same-city vacation (my 4YO LOVES hotels). It was awesome! We had breakfast at goodpress.

Can't wait to go back to Idolwolf on date night

The whole garment district is trying to come back. The Last Hotel is really nice as well. Trying hard to develop an art and fashion district in that area. Keep your eyes on it.

If you like Fork & Stix but find it too busy, check out Aubergine Cafe[1] on 7th. Some of the same great recipes, but more space and less crowds.

I went twice last week. I grabbed a bagel at Fielder's Choice, ate it in Kiener Plaza, visited the Economy Museum in the Federal Reserve the first day. I used to work downtown, I've been a city resident for over a decade but sometimes I want to see the city as an outsider might and that day alone I saw so many people out downtown.

The second day I was back to complete some downtown streets since I'm trying to walk every street of each neighborhood (9 down, 21 in progress, too many to go). I walked around to see the Convention Center expansion progress, checked out how Interco Plaza is doing (sad, as expected but there's some really interesting underground history), checked in on Paul McKee's "Bottle District" north of the Dome in Columbus Square (I was writing an IG series on Paul McKee and Bob Clark and how they've harmed the city). Those weren't the sexiest of streets so I kept going, walking around hotels and other plazas. Every time I'm downtown I see something so interesting, like the leaded glass windows of the Magnolia Hotel. I did about 5 miles that day, just constantly looking at the architecture and urban planning of it all.

I worked in that building when it was the YMCA——a number of people say it is haunted.

So many people are scared of going downtown. If youre sticking your nose where it doesnt belong and just generally being stupid then yeah you might get mugged. I work downtown and have been asked for money by the homeless a few times. A quick “Sorry i dont carry cash” and theyre gone. There is also a decent police presence downtown because of the amount of homeless.

We do need to do things to make downtown better, but we also need to bring our business and our money downtown to help the city

21c is a great spot. We live west but stay in the city about one night a month as a date night. Our last stay was at 21c and we had an amazing time. Centrally located to all the STL city attractions, the converted gym art museum was fun, even had a swim in the historic pool. The creepy red penguins that magically move around at night was probably our favorite part.

Couldn’t agree with the sentiment of this post more. Regardless of where you live, the vibrant city hub is what makes it all possible. We are fortunate to live near such a place and need to support it. We are actually considering a second home in the city. We stay there enough already it might make financial sense.

Downtown is awesome! I understand that there has been concern in crime for a while but since the beginning of 2024 this has changed drastically. I have been going downtown almost every week for a year or so now and have had nothing but a good time

Second, third, fourth this. We can go hangout in the green spaces, plazas, go to the library, the museums, eat downtown, drink downtown, shop downtown. We as the community can take ownership and force the investment with our foot traffic. Let’s just all flood downtown for everything we can and make it better. Downtown is missing people more than anything

Yes, Downtown is awesome! Finger pointing here, there would be a lot more establishments downtown if it weren't for ballpark village, stay away from that place.

I'd say it's great for the young adult and/or the childfree persons.

People with young kids or babies, even teens, not so much.

Once the city gets serious about crime, people will invest in and move there. Until then, it’s difficult to support.
