A few days ago, a gift my dad sent me arrived without the $100 worth of stamps in an envelope and a few other items he included. This is far from the first time this has happened. An elderly family member was kind enough to send me a gift card in the mail for my birthday. The card had been opened and the gift card removed. These are only recent examples. One birthday card had been opened and put into a special USPS bag saying “sorry, we had to open your mail!” It was a Christmas present or something, cash gone. Also from an elderly family member. This is really starting to piss me off. Is this widespread? Has any of this happened to you?

There have been reports of stolen items from the mail originating at distribution centers in the STL region in the last few years. Hazelwood and Clayton are two places where they've arrested workers for theft. PLEASE REPORT THIS!

Yeah I had a check for a credit card refund that showed it was supposed to deliver (via the usps email delivery service thing) that never did, but then it was cashed. Caused a huge fiasco.

As someone that works the machines. The amount of mail that gets ripped up by the machine itself is absolutely ridiculous. The belts are extremely sensitive to anything being sent other than the letter itself. Thick cards/envelopes are more prone to getting ripped up. We have no idea where the contents belong as they fly everywhere sometimes in the machine. It definitely sucks to be one of the few unlucky people to have it happen too. Especially letters with the pretty wax seals, or dark colored cards (red/blue/black), machines can’t read them. They never stand a chance and I recommend sending them as a non machinable letter. They have stamps specifically for that as well.
Also anyone that sees this that sends anything PLEASE put a return address…the amount of limbo cards is…horrific because no one writes return addresses if the sender messes up the recipients address.

I had one day in December where all of the Christmas cards (probably 5 or 6) they delivered had been opened. I'm sure they were looking for gift cards. I hope they enjoyed seeing all my family and friends.

No but I had it happen with fedex. It's very common for cell phones to disappear from the box in transit.

I got a Valentines card that was open just yesterday. It never had a check or gift card, but someone definitely checked.

I just got my passport some. They took our pictures in the back area. We watched several people throwing shit everywhere. I'm not surprised.
UPS is worse. FedEx you're lucky it arrives, and with stuff inside it.

I've had damaged packages/envelopes that have been delivered successfully with the contents. Sometimes in special bags, sometimes retaped. But never in my life have I had something stolen that way.
