View submission: haunted lilac

Oh, Sara adrift on her shadowed sea,

Bound by a fate as fierce as free.

In haunted lilac, the past does roam,

A phantom love, a fractured home.

The ocean holds secrets, dark and deep,

As sorrow and spite in her heart creep.

The vows once spoken in rain’s embrace,

Now drown in waves, erased, replaced.

She casts him down to the silent floor,

Yet his face returns, a ghost on the shore.

In wedding songs that salt her tears,

The memories rise, then disappear.

The rudder breaks, her spirit veers,

Toward sandbar shoals and hidden fears.

But even in wreck, her heart remains,

Sheltering love beneath past pains.

For vengeance, though sharp, cannot rescind

The soft shelter she offered him once in the wind.

In life’s last twist, she is fate’s own art—

The storm, the shield, the fractured heart.
