There's no half-way.
Of course there is. They call it "moderating an internet forum."

PETITION TO UNBAN SPAM BOTS
Either we support freedom of speech or we don't, no exceptions.

Yes there is.
You ban RapingWomen so that women feel safe to exercise their free speech.
Of course, this is implying free speech in and of itself should be valued, instead of it being understood simply as a manifestation of human autonomy.

Then someone links him to what is literally a guide to the most vulnerable spots to hit a woman, and he responds:
Well that's just offensive. Of course, it does say it's a self-defense guide to dealing with women and there's one against men too, but yeah, that's pretty bad.
Like what the fuck how do these people exist among us in society

It's spez-speak:
I'm so sick of people, who aren't harmed by hate, giving hate a safe haven / while acting as if they're being personally effected, and giving hate a safe haven is some sort of sacrificial, heroic act.

/u/warlizard what do you think now?
EDIT: He's banned but he PM'd me. Here's what he said.
As to my personal opinion now, well, fuck 'em.
When I joined, nearly 6 years ago, Reddit was all about being free to create, no matter how repulsive or offensive it was.
Those times are gone and I have zero sympathy for the people who think that creating a subreddit devoted to raping or beating women is funny or positive.
It's not the kind of thing I talk about because it's a closely-held belief that's a sensitive subject, but as soon as Reddit management decided that some things were worthy of banning, i.e., /r/rapingwomen or others of that ilk, well, I would have been far more sweeping in what I would have banned.
I've tried to live my life by being a decent person to other people. "Have fun, don't be a dick" is my motto.
That would be my standard. If you live to make other people's lives miserable, well, fuck you.

There's no half-way.
Well, let's see...
Well, I guess we don't have *true* freedom of speech currently.
Most people, myself included, are fine with some limits of freedom of speech (like the limits in my examples). Different people draw the line at different points.
Do I think that a community devoted to sexual violence should have their speech protected? No.
To summarise my views on this person's opinions:

Guy's a real charmer. Containing his highest comments of all time:
In Ellen Pao's op-ed in the Washington Post today, she said "But to attract more mainstream audiences and bring in the big-budget advertisers, you must hide or remove the ugly."
How much of the push toward removing "ugly" elements of Reddit comes from the motivation to monetize Reddit?
EDIT: "Anything that harasses, bullies, or abuses an individual or group of people (these behaviors intimidate others into silence)" -- This is troubling because although it seems reasonable on the surface, in practice, there are people who scream harassment when any criticism is levied against them. How will you determine what constitutes harassment?
Here he is saying that Micheal Brown got what he deserved, the people rioting are crazy
And also here he is, saying "Double standard, blah blah blah, rape, blah, if that had been a 16-year-old girl, blah, etc."[1] about a 16 year old boy having sex with a 42 year old woman. Charming.
EDIT: People also claimed that "OP is working for SOPA/what SOPA will entail for the internet/Reddit." Oh how reddit never changes.

There's no half-way.
Seriously, how hard it is to tell yourself: "Hey, you know what? I think we, being somewhat self-governing private platform, can safely ban some horrible stuff and free speech won't suffer at all! And rape is horrible so we'll start with that one I think".

Reddit's Frozen Peach Warriors and SQW's are out in full force defending raping women because "muh freeze peaches".
Meanwhile, the calls to ban the omnipresent threat of SRS, representative of our beloved BRD, continue to grow ever louder.

I wonder how these people function in life when they see everything as a slippery slope. Like, do they empty whole bottles of dressing on their salads? "There's no reasonable way of knowing when to stop!"

Freedom of speech isn't threatened by moderating a website. Freedom of speech is not all or nothing. There is nuance. Basically got every single part of your statement *objectively* wrong /u/warlizard
