View submission: Washington should follow Minnesota’s lead and lower sales tax on all goods affected by tariffs

WA state is in a $10B deficit. They will not lower sales taxes and likely already anticipated lower spending by consumers. WA need all the taxes they can collect at this point.

Also if federal gov cuts funding to states, states will also need to pick up the costs if we want to maintain continuity in completion of projects and social services along with other programs. Example: Medicaid expansion which provided additional services to members or services will be cut.

Given that the current administration is not fond of blue states, it’s quite possible we will be in more of a financial bind.

How did we go from Jay boasting about a surplus like a year ago to a huge deficit?

Just a note that the $10B deficit is over 4 years. That detail got glossed over a lot in the media coverage. As far as I can tell that framing came from Governor Inslee and Governor Ferguson.

I like how you casually state WA has a $10 billion deficit as if the state of WA bares absolutely no responsibility. now you expect a federal bail out? Irresponsible states such as CA and WA need to balance their budgets and stop wasting so much taxpayer money.

Inslee left us in a really bad position. We can't afford now to give up on revenue to pay for his waste.

They don't need more money they need less. WA wastes obscene amounts of money on wasteful valueless projects and not enough on stuff that actually affects everyone. Do you know how much the state spends in lawsuits fighting its own people? How about the billions spent each year on homeless projects that do nothing and has only got worse. How about the investment in road diets to increase congestion. I could go on and on. It's time to financially gut them. They need to work in a budget like everyone else.

Implementation of a wealth tax is a nightmare. And do you want assets to move to another state?
