Then if that account or provider was compromised it could be used to hijack the reddit account. My point is I'd like the option to use a purely cryptographic 2FA process doesn't depend on any accounts/services outside of reddit.

Obviously it would be a disaster if this was the default configuration, but it would be nice to have hidden behind a sufficiently scary "for advanced users only" warning.
