I’m curious how long you spend together with family or friends and what it is you do

For us, it has always been a multi day affair and I doubt most families do this. We began Wednesday evening and still have family in town that we are hanging out with.

What do you do?

Days and we love it.

Thanksgiving dinner. Then we all go to the aquarium or the zoo with all the kids on Friday. Then we do a Turkey Trot race on Saturday and hang out afterwards for hours and hours.

It's sad when it's over. We all love when we get together, great grandparents down to the toddlers.

Everyone is local enough to drive to my home and back to theirs on the same day. Starts at 11 am and ends at 7 pm.

About three hours. We go to my parents house, visit a bit, eat, visit some more, and leave. There's really no point in being together any longer.

My Family is local, so we see each other often; Thanksgiving Day is a 5 or 6 hour event, no more. We begin around noon and start leaving late afternoon.

Maybe 6-8 hours?

We usually go around 3 and people with kids begin leaving by 9 and everyone by maybe 12? When I was younger we would plan to sleepover at grandmas because the adults would be having so much fun we didn’t leave until morning.

It's just me, my husband and three very young boys. We stay home but make it an all day celebration. We have poached eggs on sourdough, watch the parade. Then I get the turkey in and we watch Christmas movies until mealtime. Then we get the boys into bed and we have a couple of drinks and relax. It's wonderful.

When I would celebrate with my family, my dad and I would last approximately 30 minutes on pleasantries until we had to leave for a walk or hike ride or canoe trip. We both do NOT like having Other People in our houses and thanksgiving was always stressful.

As an adult, I just celebrate with my husband. My dad and stepmom have finally accepted they enjoy the same at their home. We finally gave up the thing that makes us miserable.

Maybe 6 hours. We host Thanksgiving at our house, and the local-ish relatives come over around 11am. Dinner is on the table at 1pm. By 5pm everyone is gone. I”m very introverted, so I’m completely worn out by the time they leave. I cannot imagine trying to survive DAYS of togetherness.

Thanksgiving begins when the Lions kick off. I put out charcuterie and cocktails, dinner usually starts during Cowboys first quarter. But people come and go along the way so it's six hours plus for me and around three for guests. Thanksgiving is my favorite and the least commercialized holiday 🦃

Used to be a tour of 3 houses spanning about 9 hours.

Now, it's barely one for a few hours. Life changes.

One hour, more or less. We cook, everyone eats, we all nap.

Five hours. We have little kids, and so do my BIL/SIL. We usually get together with the family after the kids have naps and hangout until they get tired (3 to 8pm).

We live very close, though. We’re less than a mile away.

It was about 4 hours total for a light lunch. Mom has dementia and can’t have visitors for a long time before getting tired and more confused/needing a break.

We stayed at a hotel and got some take out for dinner and watched football on the hotel room tv. We live 7 hrs away by car from them so it’s not an every-year thing. Last year we were at home, just us with football and a pizza

This year i went out of the country so i didnt do anything Thanksgiving related but just ate and relaxed.

So. Every other year. We do friendsgiving at the beach. So it's a week long. My wife teleworked, I was off, and everyone else was off. But they mostly slept until she was off work. We're leaving tomorrow.

We go to my cousin's house. It's about a 1.5-hour drive. Get there around 1230 pm. Leave for home between 5 and 6 pm.

Ours was 5 hours. I actually got there 1/2 hour earlier to solve my mother's computer and household problems for her. We arrived, had appetizers for a while, ate dinner, then cleaned up and had dessert. Everyone lives within about an hour or so.

I was going to have about 5 hours with my entire family and granddaughter that hadn't been all together in 5 years but daughter's MIL decided she had to have her make up done first and made them a hour and a half late. My brother showed up 1 and 1/2 hour late for grandsons 2nd birthday party yesterday that was scheduled from 11-1. Just venting.

Back in the early 70s when my parents were in their 30s Thanksgiving was like that and relatives flew in from all over but as my Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and everyone aged it slowly stopped.. All those people are gone now but I still have great memories..

Thanksgiving for me is usually just the day itself, but it tends to stretch over the long weekend, you know? It's like you get the big meal on Thursday, and then Friday you’re just kind of lazing around in a food coma, checking out leftovers, maybe sneaking in a Black Friday sale or two online. My family sometimes does a lunch on Saturday with folks who couldn’t make it Thursday, so it's like an excuse to keep the Thanksgiving vibe rolling a bit longer. I’ve got friends who do a big “Friendsgiving” the weekend before, which makes it feel like it’s dragged out in a good way. I think how long you celebrate kinda depends on your family, how far folks travel, and if they’re staying over. Or if you’ve got kids around, there’s always more planning to do and fun activities to add in or coordinate. Some people (wish that were me) turn into Christmas people right after Thursday with decorations and tree setups. It sort of just blurs into one endless holiday until January.

I am a single mom and a 15-year-old daughter who doesn’t give a shit about hanging out with me there is no celebration lol lucky I live in the mountains in the Rockies so I went to the Hot Springs last night that’s about it
