So I'm not a regular reddit poster. More of a lurker

I'm in Western Australia and before I woke up yesterday (Sunday) I had a missed call (phone was on silent) by an unknown number. The call came in around 11am and left a 3 minute voicemail that I've not been able to listen to in full as it freaks me out. A friend has listened to it in full and there are no words spoken, just jump scare noises.

I have messaged this number twice asking "who is this" and had no reply. I've also googled the phone number to see if it's apart of some very weird "scam" but came up empty handed.

Now keep in mind when listening to this that I'm in Australia.

I could only find one place that would upload the audio and it will only do 45 seconds. If anyone knows where I could upload the full 3 mins let me know and I'll do it Here's the 45 seconds https://jmp.sh/s/0knrbJaM9x7ILLvtQydP[1]

Should I be concerned?! It's freaking me out tbh

Oh! And it came from an Australian mobile number

It's just some banging sounds. I don't think you should be freaked out

It’s clearly the same sound on repeat over and over. It’s very likely a robocall or scam trying to get you to call back or, if you pick up, to speak. The goal of these kinds of calls is to make you say a variety of phrases that may even end up being recorded and used to scam someone else.

For example, if you picked up and heard this you might say “what was that?” or “are you okay?” Which would give the scammers fodder to use on the next victim. There are plenty of similar stories of people hearing screams, lines from horror movies, etc.

Even if not that, they want you on the line so they make money in some way. It’s just a scam.

Possible scam or prank or just accidental pocket call from maybe someone older construction worker who isnt very tech savvy and hasnt noticed the voicemail or messages?

When I was in primary school one of my regular activities with friend was making prank calls. One time we dialed 0 for Operator and and just let out the longest loudest screams we could (her parents weren't home). We thought it was hilariously successful until a few minutes later the police arrived, hahaha. I think maybe that cured us of making prank calls.
