My teenager says this means they don't want to talk to me. I'm [F37] and I messaged a friend [M35] on social media that I haven't spoken to in over a decade [last we talked everything was cool between us] and they read it, but didn't respond. I'm confused because they recently started following me on social media. I'm confused why they'd follow me but not respond to my message. Is being left on read in your 30s a big deal? Does it signal disinterest? Should I send a follow up message or just let it go.

Any advice is appreciated.

Maybe she read your message at a time when she wasn't able to respond right away and just forgot to get back to you. I've done that before. If you're concerned, you could just ask her.

My advice is stop spinning the block on people from the past. Most likely they aren’t the same person as we remembered them and it may not end in your favor.

Could be a number of reasons. He could be married or have a gf and won’t engage in convo, he could have social anxiety and be overthinking what to say, they could be busy and forgot to respond, my very close friends even do this, hell my sister does this every day. I would just leave it. It social media maybe they were just curious. Don’t take it personal. You reached out ball is in their court. Carry on as normal.

give it another “I’d love to catch up!” Or whatever in a week. If they still don’t reply, then yeah you’re left on read for whatever reason and I’d remove them from following you.

Any chance he’s a married dude just wanting to creepily stalk you?

Does he have a partner? If yes, it may be deliberate that he is not looking to find new or rekindle old friendships with women.

If he doesn’t … it’s possible he’s just really busy. In my work I am constantly dealing with messages, emails, teams notifications, and then I have Instagram notifications, Poshmark notifications Facebook and so on… it’s possible he’s saw you’re message and forgot it.

Your call on next move, there isn’t a right or wrong.
