I always thought I wouldn’t be trapped in the cliché of beige, pink, and blue when it came to my baby’s clothes. But guess what? I’ve given up! Why? Because the market strongly imposes these colors, and my child needs clothing! Yes, even in one of the most advanced countries when it comes to breaking gender clichés—or, ironically, especially here! Add to that a restricted amount of stores and extremely limited selection in those stores, and I really struggle to find fun clothing for my baby.

I don’t think I need to explain that children should learn that their style is not just a mere functional uniform but a way to express their unique identity.

Do you know any stores or brands in Oslo that offer a more diverse selection? I’d be grateful for any recommendations!

Polarn O. Pyret. This Swedish quality brand has been selling non-cliche, often unisex clothing for children since 1976. Their classic stripe pattern is quite recognizable:

Their clothes are also popular second hand, so you might take a look also at Finn.no.

Also of interest: their waterproof, outdoor clothing for children has been highly rated in consumer tests for years.

They’re sold at their single brand stores and at their own webstore.

Lindex also has a reasonable selection of non-cliche clothing for kids, with good quality for the price. https://www.lindex.com/no

For outdoor clothing, like waterproof/all weather jackets, there’s also brands like Reima, Skogstad, Stormberg and Helly Hansen.

Lindex is in my experience very good at not being just pink and blue. They have a lot of cute stuff and in good quality

I don't like the lack of colour in baby stuff either. I also have twins and like to buy two of each but in different colours and the amount of stuff where this means blue and pink or beige is astonishing.

I buy most baby clothing second hand, either on finn.no or in second hand shops, so I don't know what's in the stores at the moment, but our most colourful things are from Polar O Pyret, Reflex and Lindex.

Baby clothes stores like any other commercially viable store will comform to social norms. And sadly, society is stuck in that old blue and pink.

Googling "baby clothes oslo" brings up some stores, but you have to research them.

Buy clothes from both gender avdelinger.

My daughter in the early 00s arvet alot from her male cousins, and I bought her some more classic "girl clothes".

The combination was superb!

Of the new stuff we bought for our kids much was from the Swedish brand Villervalla - https://www.villervalla.com/[1][2]

A quick search online seems to indicate they no longer have a Norwegian importer any longer - bet their webshop does ship to Norway - or you could pop across the border for a daytrip (shops in Alingsås and Gothenburg - the latter also having an outlet plus a shop carrying the brand in Karlstad).

Couple of years since I could dress my kids without them having a say in it, indocrinated by school and kindergarden.. But Lindex used to be the best imo.

I'm expecting my first and finding clothes (even toys and baby equipment) in other than brown, beige, gray and white has been a struggle. It drives me insane. I don't want my children to have to dress like old people in a nursing home.

I don't mind the typical gender colors of blue and pink, but I'd love bright colours and they're so hard to find. Think of 90s kid's clothes, like strong colours combined with a cute childish print. That's what I'd want. I wanna see their clothes glow, so they're easy to spot in a crowd.

Lindex so far has had a few nice ones, and I've also found a couple of things in H&M. Looking to other countries' online shops might give more results, but they're more expensive so it depends how much you want to spend.
