View submission: Generational Montanans
The Maine comment was more to tell Montanans (of which I’m a 4th generation 🙄) they are not unique. This has happened in Colorado, Maine, Vermont - pretty much anywhere the scenery is pretty. In Great Falls, whenever a crime happens, “must be an out of stater!”. Yeah, you can blame Californians for selling their 2 million dollar houses and moving to Montana and raising the property value. But they can’t be blamed for every social ill. The state got redder as people from Bakersfield and Redding tired of California’s liberal state policies. Yet somehow, the transplants are bringing their “liberal values” and ruining our state.

Lol I figured, was just funny. And absolutely. My family has been in Montana for a long time, and also has roots in Colorado, and it’s very similar, with the exception that Colorado is about 20-30 years further down the path of losing its regional identity.
