Getting award notifications via chat is confusing, and feels really awkward.

I'm a mod on /r/GoForGold where awards are given out plentily for completing challenges. Getting notifications of awards via chat is very confusing.

When you get awarded, if the users does not award anonymously, it sends an award message via chat. It looks like:

/u/Kvothealar received the Take My Energy Award.

However, normally users don't want to start a chat with the people that award them. It's incredibly awkward for both parties involved. Further, it doesn't actually link to the awarded comment which can lead to serious confusion trying to figure out what challenge you won.

I've spoken to a large number of users regarding this over the last year or so, and not one person actually likes award messages via chat, everybody seems to prefer the old standard message that links you to the comment.

So that's where they're going? I get awarded somewhat consistently and stopped getting notifications. I also have chat disabled since Reddit chat is infuriating and obnoxious.

To be honest the whole notification system just sucks. This is the first feature change that made me miss old Reddit. Give us back the option to just have messages where the damn bell is.

I was going to make this very post. It's so awkward to send a message with an award and find that it went as a chat request, especially as I have chat disabled and now, I find myself inviting someone to have me enable chat with them and have a whole conversation about a comment or post they made that I liked.

I don't send any messages with awards anymore for this reason. I liked it when the message was attached to the whole message telling them they got an award, though.

Thanks for sharing this - we really appreciate you taking the time to write up some feedback. I will pass this along to the team working on awards!

Its a quite of a mixed feeling scenario on this one.

In one hand if the redditor likes your post or comment about completing a challenge *in your sub scenario of course* then if wants to let you know who was it then why not be a bit specific on the message instead of a blank award without response or just a short text attached to the award?

And when you get awarded in both old and new reddit notifications it does let you know the linked comment or post you got awarded with by simply clicking on it.

And the other part of awkward, its up to you if accept or not to the chat request by showing a quick automated thanks response or by adding your custom thankful response about the award. also there's also on old reddit a way to respond to the award via message and no chat message if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe I’m using the old design? Or perhaps because It’s anonymous it’s a different format.

This came up in messages earlier not chat. I can click the *”comment”* link and see which comment I got the award for and have the option to respond via comment through this message. Which I didn’t do because I 100% didn’t want the awkward conversation lol.
