By nobody here you mean you, right?
I still play the game, and don't just play to memorize them all, I play for fun.
You say you quit because "there's way too many new pokémons, I'd never be able to memorize them all!" That isn't why you play, you play for fun!
I think the Pokemon games are getting WAY funner!
Sure, the original games are classic and nostalgic, but I play a game for fun, not because it is original.
Most people say they like the old games, but their only reason is "I like the old stuff" or "It's so much better!" when in all reality, they just say that because it is the originals.

I mean the local people. I live in a small town in I'm pretty sure a different continent from you, and almost anyone here tends to equate gaming to something children do, so you can imagine how well received pokémon is amongst them today.
Outside of this little community I know they are still very popular, even with older guys.
And you know, reading stuff like what they added does seem to make it way more fun than it was. There are still all the pokémon I grew up to love, and on top of that a lot of new ones too. I've seen some, and there are some new pokémons that look fantastic. As for originality, I don't really care much for it. It's not broken, you can add stuff and experiment with an already solid formula. No reason to reinvent the wheel each time. I really don't understand people saying "the old stuff is better". It's all in there. Maybe not all the old pokémon, I don't know... but a lot surely are still present. I like the time I've spent with the old stuff, but the new can be as good as the old or better simply because they had more than enough time to refine the formula.
I still don't think I'm going to play through the games, maybe I'll wait a little bit and get whatever versions follow Alpha Sapphire / Omega Ruby. I'll keep those two versions fresh in my memory as I played them when I was younger, and I'll enjoy the next, even more refined and content rich games!
