I suppose that comes down to how you define diversity, and I won't deny that I do have a bit of a nostalgia boner for this game.
While it wasn't necessarily "explosively" diverse like Hoenn, it felt realistically large and varied enough to make it feel like a part of a larger world. It inspired my imagination as a kid, haha.
