When I worked at Home Depot we had a cat named Homer who lived in the garden department and helped take care of our mice problem. One day some peta dickheads came in and took him, they made a huge scene on their way out about how we were abusing this poor cat. One of the supervisors who worked there was absolutely devastated and she went all over town trying to find Homer, she put up flyers all over and checked with local shelters. After a few weeks she found out that Homer had been taken to a shelter and euthanized.

I'm going to guess that more people are allergic to councilmen than cats.

A city worker was told they couldn't bring their puppy to work in city hall, so they complained about the cat at the library. Smh.

For those interested, the story is linked below. It's an awesome story that is well written with plenty of puns and funnies. I love when businesses have animals. Well, when they have the right animals that they know are well trained and can be trusted to be safe with the public. There's an antique market near here that has a cat that lives in the shop. It's the sweetest, most affectionate cat I have ever seen. Comes immediately when the owner calls him, purrs loudly when kids pick him up and squeeze him. It's so charming. Another pottery shop also has a cat. Everyone knows his name, it's "Squeekers." He doesn't meow, he squeaks. He's hilarious and fun.

That councilman should be ashamed. Here's the story:

We had a cat at our local library, “penny”. Penny had been there forever and someone complained about allergies, so when Penny passed, there were no more cats allowed. This library had been open for around 100 years and always had a cat.

They’re just nervous that he’ll learn to read. Once the cats can read, they’ll usurp ALL the power!

Cats need to be in more places, not fewer! I missed our cat so badly when I was in the hospital.

I've heard this story from a tiktoker and the people were pissed at the councilmen, I believe they also organize a campaign that led to the cat getting hired again

Okay I might get downvoted to hell for taking a contrary view here but regardless of the councilman's motivations I believe concerns over allergens is a very valid reason to ban a cat from a library, and I say this as someone who would be beyond delighted to have a cat in my local library.

Libraries are not businesses , they are an important public service, and one that grows more and more vital by the day imo. They provide information and access to learning and culture for free in a world where those things are usually locked behind a pay wall, price tag or tuition fee and are one of the few publicly available indoor spaces where you can hang out without spending money. They are funded via taxpayer money. Like any public service, they should and must be accessible to the greatest amount of people as they can, and where they are found to be lacking in accessibility, they should work to rectify that.

Anyone can choose to not enter a place of business (and therefore not give them their money), and likewise a business can choose to exclude or attract certain types of people via the way they choose to operate. This is not how public services (should) work.

Every human being should have the right to enter and use a public library. Some people cannot enter a space while an allergenic animal is there, no matter how well the air in the space is claimed to be filtered. I do not believe their well-being and their right to be there should be set aside for the enjoyment of others. Unfortunately I think this a case where the wants of the many does not outweigh the needs of the few.

If allergies are the problem, to the point it’s disrupts their daily life, why don’t people work on them? You can get immunotherapy, that lessens the severity and other preventatives to boost your tolerance. Also do research on places before you go there.
