hi everyone,
i wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else is in the same boat. i signed up for the lund & malmö kick-off party by the student life back in december/november because it was promoted as one of the biggest events for international students. however, they ended up postponing the event to a later date and have yet to confirm the venue despite the party being on the 31st.
as someone who already had travel plans, i couldn’t make it to the rescheduled date. i wrote an email asking for a refund since the change of date wasn’t my choice and i was no longer free. some of my friends who were in the same situation (also traveling) emailed them too, and they were granted refunds. but when i got a reply, i was told the tickets are non-refundable and that i had to find another exchange student to sell or give my ticket to.
this feels completely unfair, especially since they seem to be granting refunds selectively depending on who writes the email. the whole event just seems so poorly planned—the venue was announced last minute, the event got postponed, and now people like me are left out of pocket with no support. i feel like i’ve been scammed since i’ll never get my money back.
has anyone else dealt with something similar? i feel like we need to call this out because this isn’t how an event for international students should be handled.

the lund & malmö kick-off party by the student life
I've never even heard of this event lol, and honestly it sounds kinda scammy. Surely the biggest event still is the welcome party hosted by the international desk?

Im pretty sure there was a similar party planned for international students at the start of last semester which turned out to be a big scam. Location was empty and couldn’t get a hold of ppl involved. I think the scammers had reached out by email to a bunch of students to market it. I remember seeing a lot of warnings about it on social media from LU and different student associations.

The organizers are not part of any of the official student organizations. There is no official "kickoff" party. These guys do this every semester. They put together a party and say it's for international students but anyone can go. That's why it looks poorly planned 😅

Do you have a link to the event/the group who hosted it? Because they way you describe it is ringing scam alarm bells.

Classic scam, this happens every semester. The real event never happens.
