It's a good school if you are majoring in fields adjacent to biology (think MLS, nursing, pharmacy). The campus life is fine, plenty of RSOs you can choose to be a member of.
As far as part time jobs are concerned, I've seen job postings in the ULM student facebook group every now and then. Shouldn't be too hard to find one.

ULM has some great programs. Nursing, construction, Pharmacy and Education have been great programs for years.
In terms of job opportunities for college students, it is set to explode. The area is experiencing a huge economic boom that hasn't really kicked off yet... Within 45 minutes of Monroe we have a Buckees that is about to be constructed, a massive Meta data center (and associated power plants) that is going to be employing thousands of construction jobs, a bio-aviation fuel plant, 2 solar farms and a bioresearch center that is currently under construction.
So there will be a lot of job opportunities available. And all those construction workers and ancillary workers will be looking to spend their money on entertainment and dining. The down side is all the off campus housing is likely to be filled by all those same workers.
I know the wait staff at Delta Biscuit Company make good tip money and a fine dining place just opened near it and it is doing well.

Monroe is a bad place with bad people who scapegoat people fitting your description. Do as you wish, and be as successful as you know you deserve, but please be safe 🫂

My daughter got her masters as a Speech Pathologist there a few years ago. Found a job on campus pretty easily. Nice apt. She hated the town though and it’s pretty unsafe.  Stayed at home mostly when not in class. And it rains ALL of the time. Like crazy.  Education was excellent, the rest not so much.
