I got into UC Santa Cruz and UC Santa Barbara within a couple days of each other! :-)

This is what years of slaving away in community college gets me! I'm super excited to move onto my next college step.

I “ran into” my old car yesterday. I walked out of a bar and saw a car that looked like the one I sold last year and said “hey, it’s my car” to my friend, not really thinking it would actually be my old car. Then we walked around the front of it, I saw the license plate and very excitedly stated that it was actually my car! There was a man sitting in the driver’s seat with the window down and of course my exclamations caught his attention. We chatted for a while about the car & when he bought it. He told me how amazed he was at the condition of the car compared to how many miles were on it. I felt like a proud momma but I have also been missing that car lately so it made me miss it a little more seeing it. Though I know I won’t miss it once the heat gets here since the ac didn’t work. Anyhow, that was a weird and fun moment that continued to make me smile for the rest of the walk to the metro.

It seems like every time someone here asks for taco or street food recommendations , someone will inevitably say the stand across from Whole Foods on Lincoln. And then others will chime in on how great it is.

Well, I finally decided to try it last night. Had the al pastor. It was delicious. Their red salsa packed a punch. I said, “if this passes the morning after test, this is our new regular spot”

It did not. I spent 45 explosive minutes on the toilet this morning and was late for work. Btw, it’s just as spicy on the other side.

I got a headhunting call yesterday from a company that I would need to explain to my parents I'm not a drug dealer. It has the possibility of paying more, but I think it might be a step down in terms of "title" and responsibilities. IDK

Just had an internal AITA moment over the way I handled something earlier. I've concluded that ITA and going to take someone out for lunch tomorrow.

Phonecalls yesterday went well. Smaller startup was surprised I was able to understand and reframe their problem that the dude thought I had seen his pitch deck. Larger consulting firm is moving fast and has a technical phone interview setup for Friday. It's been so long that I haven't worked that I'm losing touch with what a salary should be/willing to work for anything at this point and when he asked for a number I gave a very low one and he was like "how are you going to live in LA with that? Don't hardball yourself, you're taking away my fun" which at least got him to open up and make the conversation go a bit smoother. I'm excited/nervous but I'm glad things are somewhat moving.

Ordered some blackout curtains from Amazon and now my sleep is even cozier.

Decided to go meatless for dinner these last few nights and cook with tofu. I'm into it. And it's either agreeing with me or I have my diet under control in general, because I've been feeling slim and light and fast the last couple days.

I've been waking up with enough time to stretch and work out here at home in the morning, and in the afternoons at work I sneak off for a half hour walk. Seems like it's all adding up.

Last night I went to Ross. Seeing how cheap things are there is a good reminder of how companies get away with charging whatever they think people will pay. Betsey Johnson sheets marked down to just under $20 from over $100, etc.

I picked up this large, two-toned, gray and dull brass piece of pottery for my ever expanding prayer plant for just a few bucks. I think the vibrant red and green of the plant will look really cool in the mostly gray pot. Gonna replant that guy this weekend.

So far so good this week!

Finally got to try Night + Market Song for Thai food. I'm a thai food snob after having lived in Thailand for a few years.

Wow... it sucks compared to what you can get right down the road in Thaitown. Would not recommend if you want thai food with actual flavor.

Heading home for possibly the last time.

Parents in Jersey are ready to move soon and my sister has moved to living with her boyfriend.

Add in that I’m turning 30 in two days I am starting to feel very old.

Productive day at the gym yesterday. I'm back in that motivated mode since I decided to restructure my routine. Still haven't hammered out all the details but it's starting to take shape.

Still haven't found an option for a cheap pool to learn to swim in. Super open to suggestions if anyone has any.

Ahhh I just want to flake off this week. Two more sleeps, one therapy appt., two flights then I'm in Austin and get to see the husband! So. Soon. I'm glad I unpacked my suitcases from Portland when I got home. I have a lot to do before Friday and I'm just avoiding it all.

Does anyone believe the conspiracy theories about the Dr Sebi documentary and Nipsey Hussle's death? I'm not really buying it but its interesting. I slept about 12-13 hours last night and I almost feel normal again. Gonna do a lot of sleeping this weekend.

I need a mesh riding jacket before the heat really kicks in. I should also think about replacing my fur-lined jeans with someone more cool weather appropriate.

EDIT: I went full dumbass. Second sentence should be: I should also think about replacing my fur-lined jeans with something more warm weather appropriate.

Leaving the original so you can all learn from my mistakes.

Decided to learn a new Spanish phrase for my coworkers: me siento una mierda. Anyone else feel like you can spend weeks feeling like you’re “getting sick” before actually getting there?

I'm curious, were areas like Malibu and Hollywood ever "relatively affordable?" I don't mean "cheap" or anything, but rather something the average upper middle class person with a well paying job like as a civil engineer could've afforded?

Watched Shazam last night. Half way through the movie, I thought I’d leave disappointed. NOPE! They gave me what I hoped for.

Also, the joker trailer is a dream come true. I loved the joker as a kid. Stoked.
