I'm planning to visit Uruguay in April and spend 4 days in each city, and I'd like some advice on how to make the most of my trip:

is it a safe country for a girl to travel alone?

What's the weather like at this time of year?

Which of the two cities has the best nightlife on the weekend?

What are the must-see attractions in the cities?

1- Punta del Este is one of the safest places you can be in South America. Montevideo, on the other hand, can get sketchy in most of the places at night (lots of people living on the street). If you stay in Pocitos or Punta carretas you'll be fine at night.

2- Can be cold, can be hot, can be rainy, can be sunny. In April you never know.

3- Montevideo. Punta del Este Nigthlife is great in summer and almost non existent the rest of the year.

4- In Montevideo: La rambla, ciudad vieja, El prado, parque Rodó, estadio Centenario. In punta: Going to the beach (if the weather is good), Casapueblo, MACA museum, los dedos, el Puerto.

You should also visit Colonia del Sacramento. 4 days is a lot in my opinion for Montevideo and punta del este in autumn.
