Why do people think we're not allowed?

We are. We're just not allowed to post email addresses in the OP.

Kn0thing said they were going to clarify that rule more at some point, right?

Email campaigns work. None of Gawker Media's advertisers signed on Jan 2015. Native advertising (articles, paid amas, etc) is more effective and is worth far more to them in terms of money.

OP is under the impression that there is one set of rules that applies to the whole of Reddit.

It doesn't matter whether or not we're "allowed" to, we never should have stopped having BGotD stickies in the first place.

Excellent so where did we leave off on the BGotD?

I think the most "sensational" version of the truth took off before someone could actually clarify. I have seen so many people state that we are not allowed to conduct email campaigns but I lost interest/motivation in correcting people.

There was never a time when we were disallowed to conduct email campaigns. The admins did state we are not allowed to post the contact information of PR representatives directly in the post. Instead we have to link to it.

The controversy surrounding this comes from the fact we are the only subreddit this rule applies to and other subreddits coordinate awareness campaigns regularly without any added regulation.

/u/kn0thing, if the email is a general contact email or, if it is an individual's email, it is listed as the primary contact email for an organization, are we allowed to post it in the original post? Something that is publically provided on a contact page should be fair game to post, but I'd like you to please weigh in directly.

It was a vague rule and there were boards that got away with it and other that were banned.not to mention the mods got warnings AFAIK.

Bettter to play safe at the moment and keep it to the chan(s)

Gamergate is extremely old news right now. Why would more advertisers pull out now over things that happened almost a year ago? I feel our efforts are better focused in the censorship direction.
