I grew up in west Knoxville and used to ride from the old theater near the Lowe's on Peters Rd. all the way into downtown using mostly greenways and sidewalks. I moved away and haven't ridden this route in the better part of two decades but I'll be back in town with my bike and would love to go explore the greenway trail system. Things have changed so much and all I have is google maps and street view to try to piece this together. I cannot for the life of me figure out how I used to get from the Jean Teague Greenway where it dead ends into Vanosdale Rd. over to pick up more sidewalk and eventually the Bearden Village Greenway/Sutherland and on to the Third Creek Greenway.

Is this even possible? Will this route lead to death or disfigurement?

My best guess is:

Vanosdale to Sheffield Dr.

Right onto Wesley Rd.

Cross Kingston Pike then turn left up it and try not to die on the sidewalk until Lockett Rd.

Lockett going south, cross Deane Hill, then to Royal Crown/Baum Dr.

Cross Northshore, stop at Ham'n Goodys for some of those lemon cookies, then up Walden to Gore Rd.

Gore Rd. back up to Kingston Pike ^(()*^(passing the Buddy's Banquet Hall where my wife and I got married almost 18 years ago)*^())

Go up Kingston Pike about half a block and cross back to the north side at Bearden Elementary to pick up the greenway again.

This is literally the designated bike route from Cedar Bluff to Downtown. It will take you where you need to go. As the designated bike route, there is signage through here to direct you, so you won't have to memorize directions or look at your phone.

I haven't done this ride since they added the sidewalk along Kingston Pike between Wesley and Lockett. Even then, it was an easy ride on Kingston Pike as it was short. Now days, I'd be tempted to ride the sidewalk if it's complete.

Watch out crossing Deane Hill though. People fly through there. Beyond that, it's pretty safe for biking in Knoxville. Stay safe and have fun!

You should wear a helmet cam, so you can sue when you are inevitably hit by a bad driver.

It’s marked with signs. And they actually add bike lanes along the very short section of Kingston pike

The only thing I would do differently is at West Hills Elementary I would go down West Ridge and Stockton to Wesley and then turn right. That hill on Sheffield is a killer.

A friend pointed me to this map[1] from ibikeknx which does (as other commenters have confirmed) show this as the preferred route. It also has some other cool info on it.
