Most places you go, servers make $2.13 an hour in Tennessee. Why wouldn't they when it's common practice? Only really nice restaurants pay more. It's why I stopped serving even though I love the job, I felt exploited. I *was* exploited.

I know *technically* if a server doesn't get enough tips (oh and also they usually are forced to "tip out" their untipped coworkers btw) then the employer pays out up to $7.25. However, that is on a **pay period** basis. So, a server could make only $6 /hr for a full day work, but its not illegal because they made $8.50 /hr the day before.

Also, servers who don't make enough tips, so that their boss has to cough up money... they tend to get fired "at will". Boss would never admit it.

The working class is often exploited. No sick pay, not much labor protections at all... expect OSHA is there to protect. Oh right, OSHA might be eliminated completely by Congress! H.R. 86

Tip your servers well folks!
