It was the same set up where tips made up part of your wages- I genuinely think they try to make it so confusing that you don’t question it. Meanwhile you’re actually losing out on money. Not to mention, cash tips especially, at least in my opinion, are based on customer service so I never agreed with the fact that we couldn’t even keep cash tips.

Yes, trying to classify you as a tipped worker, but that falls apart when he's confiscating tips to pay the non-tipped workers. That's the definition of wage theft.

Maybe he had some legal-adjacent person try to come up with some loopholes to avoid prosecution... But the intent of depriving workers of proper pay seems clear.
