By that point unconditional surrender and occupation were going to happen, no matter what. After WW1 the Germans invented this kind of "Lost Cause Myth" where "they didn't really lose the war, they were stabbed in the back by politicians and Jews". The Allies were determined that this would not happen again, and they were going to occupy Germany and make sure that the Germans knew, down to the very marrow in their bones, that they had lost this one.
