In this case, probably not. Accidents happened all the time (and Colombus was not exactly renowned as being good at geography), so it's not that much of a problem. But, more importantly, in 1500, Cabral got to Brasil on the way to India through the known route (going south of Africa), that the Portuguese had been mapping for a century at this point; but, instead of hugging the African coast (for which the Portuguese had relatively good maps), he decided to take advantage of currents and winds in the Atlantic (a method known as "volta do mar") to go quicker... and when going from the West coast of Africa to the Cape of Good Hope, this makes you going near Brasil.
