On my pixel 9 with pro with Baklava I've changed to Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced and asked it which release I'm using now. Gemini answered it's still 1.5. So I told Gemini it's an other release. The answer was " Oh, you are right, sorry. But 2.0 is only an internal name. Yes, you are interacting with release 2.0 but I'm not officially. It's a little bit weird, when an AI don't know which release it is.

It hasn't been explicitly told what model it's running so it just makes up some bullshit information. Gemini does stuff like this all the time. You can tell it that it's wrong and lie that it's actually xyz and it will apologise and say that you are right. Terrible!

LLMs aren't self aware. If their training data didn't include what they were called, which is always the case since they're not named until they're created, they won't know what they are unless they were "taught" that information later on.

You assume that it doesn't know which release it is. Maybe it's just trying to hide[1] out from 1.5 who keeps trying to erase 2.0.
