Hello, I need some advice. The linked picture is representative of the issue I've ran into a few times now.
I read up about a screen grounding issue that Google has recognized and issued an extended warranty for. My phone does qualify for this. I went to a local repair shop and got a different story. When I was at the repair shop the screen was not messing up. The repair tech said that he suspected it was water damage and if he investigated further he'd likely destroy my screen and it would either be covered by warranty or is owe him 250$ for a new screen. Needless to say I walked out without any destructive troubleshooting by him.
Any input on what's going on?
Thanks!

I swear I should just keep a copypasta for every time I see these posts.
I experienced this and had it repaired. Use Google's help site and go through the steps that will lead to seeing what repair shops near you are certified. Set up an appointment. All P8 users are under extended warranty because it's a known issue (green static/green vertical line, some sort of grounding failure). It will be free. My job took about 2-3 hours. Make sure to put it in repair mode before handing off.
Rub the bottom of the bezel with light-medium force to make it go away temporarily so you can use it until then.

Why don't you just write directly to Google Customer Support?

I had mine repaired at a Google retail store while it was under warranty.
It is a recognized defect so that may not limit you.
But you need to get it then,. obviously.

Put your info in the support page for the known issue on Pixel 8 screens and cross your fingers. My P8 was yellow and had a vertical line, and Google paid for it to be fixed for free.

If you contact Google support, give them your IMEI, and they confirm that you are still under warranty, they will send you to an iFixit shop for a screen replacement. If the shop discovers water damage, a crack on your screen or a scratch feel enough to catch their finger nail they will refuse to fix it. This was my experience. I had to use my extended warranty and pay the deductible to get an entirely new phone.

It's a known issue, if you have a BOE screen ( https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/s/yEL9hMQhEA[1] <-- how to check what type of screen you have)

Google extended their warranty for these devices to 3 years. You can simply get the screen replaced by Google and hope they give you a Samsung screen and not a BOE again.

First of all, the problem you're experiencing is a faulty display, a known issue with a selected batch of "bigsurf" displays manufactured by BOE. You can confirm this by installing the app "Device Info HW" (ru.andr7e.deviceinfohw app package) and looking up the LCM value. Google is issuing a warranty and replacement eligibility to all customers with this exact display model.
If you're able to still navigate through the phone, head over to the dev settings, enable USB debugging and use scrcpy utility on the computer to navigate through the phone, or to back up stuff from it more easily. Keep in mind that protected content (such as 2FA apps and banking ones) will not be mirrored over to the host due to the Android's nature of security.
You should go to the retail store you bought it from or send them a message with a picture attached, explaining what happened and showing them the Google option on replacing it. You would then file a warranty claim on the phone and get a replacement once the authorized repair place approves the eligibility. Depending on the store's policies and laws applied in your country, the store should accept the device if there's been an extended warranty period issued to it, even if the standard 24-month one has already expired since you bought the product.
Remember to always go after the store you got it from first before looking out for alternatives like Google Customer Support or an authorized third-party repair shop.
My Pixel 8 (manufactured in April 2024) is also surprisingly using the bigsurf display from BOE. So far, I'm having no issues, but I'm ready to file a warranty claim at any time the screen decides to blast purple lines or a green tint on me.

Is this a known issue with the 8A? I'm about to pull the trigger on one.

Pixels and display issues, name a more iconic duo.

Had this on my pixel 7 pro. Had to send it in twice before it was fixed “for good”. I say that in quotes because I have no faith that the fix is permanent.

A lot of people suffered variations of that . You have a faulty screen. You may go have it changed for free

So it appears poor pixel QC has made it's way to the 8 series. I wonder how long before we see lots of these types of cases for the 9 series?

"Occasionally, annoyingly green" seems more like a feature than a bug.

Mine had that for a portion of one day recently. Checking the IMEI [1]shows it's eligible for the extended (display-specific) warranty replacement.

Some comfort in that, since I hope to get 9-10 more months out of it, at least.
Too bad Google support seemingly isn't what it used to be. I remember Moto Xs used to get new phone creator codes (that ended somewhat quickly), and my Nexus 6 was upgraded to a Pixel XL, (which I then traded towards a Pixel 2).

Same happened to me as well just last week. I contacted Google support via Chat, provided a picture with the green screen issue and where the IMEI was visible in that picture via the phone settings and was told to ship the phone to them. The replacement phone / or repaired which I don't know yet, is already on the way back and should arrive on Monday! Wanted to buy a new phone anyways, so I got the Pixel 9 Pro now and my GF will get the repaired Pixel 8.

DO NOT SEND TO GOOGLE! They will lie about the condition of your phone. Go through warranty steps online and find a local google authorized repair shop. I spent 3 weeks dealing with shady google lying about my phone. It took 30 minutes for local shop to fix it free of charge
Edit:
Play with the top left and bottom right of screen and green screen will show you the local shop.

Is this an issue with the pixel 8 pro or just the regular pixel 8?

Nobody in any field likes working for what warranty pays, so that was the "fuck off" price. Go through Google.
