View submission: Thoughts on trump’s economy?

All he had to do is nothing to the economy her inherited and win but he seems incapable of doing that and genuinely seems to think these Tariffs are a good idea

He genuinely wants billionaires to make more money.

That’s literally all he or they care about…

All he had to do is nothing[...]

I mean, the yield curve inversion last year is a pretty good indicator that economic hardship was to come, but the draconian nonsense he's fixed on certainly seem to have shortened the timetables and may very well make any issues dire than they would have been (on top of creating entirely unnecessary ones).

I think the point is to damage alliances so that Americans can become open to the idea of being hostile towards former allies. If he had just declared war on Canada soon after taking power, it likely wouldn't happen. People would have refused and fought it. Then congress might not have supported it. And even if they did, the military or many people in the military may not have accepted it. Also, the world would have turned on the US even harder than it is now. He needs to reposition Canada as an enemy. Same with Mexico.

Even beyond war, it allows him to justify realigning with dictators and fighting against the free world.

All he had to do was to take his Dads money ($450 million in inheritance) and invest it in the S&P 500 back in the 80’s and he would’ve been much wealthier than he was before this past election. Instead he blew it all on casinos and real estate developments that he had no business in doing and lost it all. A lot of his wealth comes from grifting, scamming and washing money for Russian oligarchs. He’s basically a conman masquerading as a rich businessman.

Check where we were in the economic cycle, can his changes reduce GDP? Absolutely! Were there many signs of recession starting? Absolutely

Trump has always been a terrible businessman, and his family have always been crooks.
