Recruiters of Edinburgh, how many job applications do you get per role these days?

I hope this is an ok thing to ask. The job market seems to be really rough right now and it’s making me wonder about how many people are generally applying for roles in the city.

Could any people involved in recruitment in the city provide an insight into how much competition there is for roles in their industry right now? Are we talking dozens or hundreads of applications for junior roles, etc?

This will be highly highly dependent on the role, industry and even company itself the answer to your question. I think you'd need to be far more specific.

If you are applying on linkedin I think you can see the number of applicants already for that role which might help.

I’ve been involved in recruiting a few roles recently, admin/junior project management, needing industry experience and we’ve got 20-100 applications. The 100 was unusual.

We had 200 in a week for a client executive role at a creative agency.

Hired for roles a few times in Edinburgh. Usually 50-200 applications come in. Maybe about 10-20 are relevant. 5 or 6 meet the criteria or are worth interviewing.

Tldr... Always apply for the job if it's one you want and meet criteria for (and even if you don't but can tailor a good covering letter, training is always available).

Hiring in retail I get around 1-2 applicants a week who might be suitable on a Saturday only job and around 3-4 a week for full time.

Might is a strong word as chancers with no visa or language skills keep applying then get surprised they can’t finish the interview.
