I'm a uni student trying to get a second hand paper copy of Sense and Sensibility, a compulsory reading in class, because: 1.The uni library only has older editions for now with smallest possible font (the contemporary editions are all unloanable). 2. I totally prefer paper to screen in terms of reading long novels 3. Being a visiting student for one semester, I probably cannot pack a lot books into my suitcase to bring them back. So for course readings that might not be so interesting for me, I plan to buy second-hand versions (which are significantly cheaper) and donate or sell them before I leave.
However, having being to several second-hand bookshops including Tills, Oxfam on Nicolson, bookshops near grassmarket, I don't come across many Austen books and not one Sense&Sensibility. Do u guys have any suggestions??? Many thanks in advance🥺

You could join the public library and loan it through there?

Are you able to buy online? I'd recommend World of Books (https://www.worldofbooks.com[1]) - they have loads of second hand books at great prices. Delivery is free and really quick too.

Oxfam have other bookshops in Morningside and Stockbridge. Give the shops a call and ask if they have a copy in stock - they should be able to put it aside for you if they have one.

Classics are often for sold new for very little money in places like The Works. There's one in Princes St, Cameron Toll and The Gyle, but then it may have a smaller point size text.
You might also get nicer, bigger editions in TK Maxx, there's one St Andrews Sq, and also several out of town shopping centres. I'm sure they'll have Austen, possibly as part of a collection, along with other perennial favourites but no guarantees.
But all this talk of wandering about town looking for a book with slightly bigger text but cheap enough that you don't mind not taking it home with you, sounds to me like procrastination. Get studying!
I don't know if you've ever tried e-readers but they're not like reading from normal screens. You won't strain your eyes and you can make the text as big as you want. Get one with a backlight and you can read in the dark.
You can get the book the book you want for free on project Gutenberg [1] and use irc client for anything else

Go further out. Of course all the copies up around the uni are gone, all your classmates have already got them. Try St Columba's bookshop in Canonmills or the Oxfam shop in Stockbridge.

It's hit or miss using second hand shops Surely it's not that expensive to buy?
