I remember there was an exposé from years ago but I can't seem to find it. I've also done some Googling but I'd like to hear from actual Romani people in Dublin.
If someone could direct to me to genuine informative articles or videos, I'd appreciate it!

Sadly, this thread has to be locked because it’s not possible to for some people to discuss things
in a non-biased/non-racist/non-xenophobic way

It's a busy place with lots of footfall where they can beg.

A lot of Roma people are in homeless accomodation around the North inner city and are turfed out during the day. Moore Street is mostly pedestrianised so it's a safe place to bring kids without fear of them getting knocked down. It's close to cheap shops like Dealz and Lidl and the traders sell fruit cheaply too. The Gardai don't move them on and few people bother them. The men tend to hang out a little further up by the bookies and the women and kids take up space at the Ilac entrance. Their culture is communal - they wouldn't be ones for sitting alone in their kitchens even if they had them. While many have referenced organised begging, families meet on Moore Street after bringing older kids to school. It's worth remembering that Roma people were enslaved for over five hundred years in Romania, until after our own Famine, by the state, church, and Romanian families. It's not for nothing that they're wary of outsiders and find safety and security by banding together.

It’s a public space. In a city with so few plazas and so on, I’m not surprised communities find places to mingle and hangout.

I don’t think you’ll get a non racist answer OP, for some reasons the Romani people are hated in Dublin. I don’t understand it myself. It’s a question that’s been asked before and most answers are sweeping generalizations
