There are parts that go from Mexico to Canada and back and forth several times before they end up in Flat Rock or wherever for a final assembly
Are they going to get taxed every step of the way?
Why isn’t Mary Barra and co. fighting this?

Will be interesting to watch this, because people do not realize how much it affects everything... So many components need packaging. Those packages need to be transported. The people go for lunch in small business restaurants... And US automotive is already in decline, because revenues in external markets are deeply affected by cheap chinese cars.

My work doesn’t touch cars at all.
However, we’re all fucked because the auto industry touched everything here. Work at a restaurant? You’re about to get substantially less business from high earners in the auto industry (plus, foods going to be more expensive). Same for any retail/anything “discretionary”.
Our only hope is the fuck face blinks, but growth is basically going to collapse because who wants to invest in such a capricious country. Basically, the only hope is shit doesn’t get too, too much worse.

Detroit - Windsor is the busiest international border crossing in North America.
Detroit will be decimated by this Canada tariffs news.

Lol working at the Ford campus in Dearborn and they’re building a brand new research and development building/complex and it is not an inexpensive build. I wonder how that is going to play out when the auto industry is feeling the effects in full swing.

Decimated - all but fuckin gone dude.
The big 3 will go bankrupt to clear the way for Tesla to own the entire vehicle manufacturing base in America
Pensions - goodbye…. It’s all gone.
All for some petty and ridiculously childish mantra of giving it to the libs….

Canada here. So what’s this going to do to the price of your eggs? Wasn’t that a big part of why folks voted for Trump?
FYI Trump super unpopular up here.

Many of our parts for the cars, component in the engine, are imported. I'm not looking forward to learning what this does to us the hard way.

Could it be? Sure. Will it? No.
Prices will absolutely go up. They always do anyway. The majority of people buying high ticket items don’t buy on price, they buy on monthly payments. It’s been that way for years. This is why you see car loans for 96 months now. Banks will just move the goal post down the road to 120 months of payments and people will keep lining up to buy them.
Auto manufacturers will keep on selling them, banks will make more in interest on longer loans and people will stay underwater in their loans longer with an ‘affordable’ monthly payment. Everybody’s happy right?
The money will always flow up the food chain.

BOYCOTT. Any organisation that donated to Trumps inauguration should be on the blacklist. Especially TESLA.

I know a lot of auto workers who voted for trump. So...I hope it does hurt. I hope them and thier families are left standing there hoping unemployment benefits keep them afloat.
