When i was around 3-4 a dr put a bunch of vaccines in me and one of them caused a severe allergic reaction that almost took me out for good. The problem is since they were putting a bunch of vaccines in me at once we aren’t sure which one caused the allergic reaction.

As a result, I haven’t been getting vaccines since I was 3-4 and although I don’t get sick often, when I do it’s brutal and often takes several weeks to fully get over sometimes. No, im not antivax; I genuinely want to get them but am anxious.

I’m afraid that since im not vaxxed, an illness is potentially around the corner that will take me out for good; doesn’t seem too unreasonable at this point with how sick I get, mentally im somewhat ready for it. In the past i’ve had to be hospitalized just for simple flu flare-ups. Should I just suck it up and slowly try vaccines again? Or just accept fate for what it is, and hope for the best when it comes to getting ill

A vaccine "almost took you out for good" and now you're worried that "an illness is potentially around the corner that will take you out for good."

Think about that.  A "potential" mystery illness is less threatening than a vaccine that "almost took you out for good."  I'd take my chances with a "potential" illness than absolutely subject myself to a vaccine when there's a known history of adverse reaction.

Take care of yourself.  Eat well.  Take your vitamins.

There are lots of things you can do to take care of yourself,  so when you do get sick it doesn't hit as hard. Exercise, sunlight, eat a balanced diet. Get plenty of vitamins, cut back on sugar. Look at Eastern medicine, it's been around thousands of years. I know people who have gotten sick from purging pent up emotions. Sounds wacko, but go give acupuncture a try. They have a completely different perspective on health. Herbalism, native medicine. I'm all for going to the doctor if I break my leg or get in a car accident. But for anything else I'm going to consider all options.

I've heard countless experiences where people who had adverse reactions as children went back after years almost died or did die bc there was a absolutely somehing in them that their body couldn't handle.

OP, talk to your doctor.

You have a severe allergy. This is a special case that requires professional consulting. Not reddit.

If you had adverse events with vaccines to the point it almost took you out then why take a chance.? I don’t understand the logic in debating what to do ? Your first instinct was not to take it so follow your instincts.

You can get vaccinated one at a time. Less likely to get a reaction, and if you do get one, you know to what vaccine. Talk with your doctor about it.

I had a reaction to the tdap a few years ago, also makes me nervous. It's understandable.

You could get sick by something happening to enter your body through the natural course of life and living amongst humans, OR you could put a relatively novel substance unknown to man or nature, directly into your body and roll that dice. Either way, you’re rolling them dice. That’s kinda life - I think - unfortunately…

I wonder how anyone ever survived sickness to reach old age before the miraculous invention of vaccines.

Anyone being honest with you would tell you that at least for you personally, the benefit vs. risk profile might very possibly be such that your vaccine anxiety is warranted.

On the other hand, many doctors would be happy to prescribe you an SSRI in order to cure you of the profound mental illness of daring to question anything recommended by the CDC.

You know, people who've never had *any* vaccines don't get cancer.

Talk to your doctor, in such situations you can be more closely monitored to see if you have an reaction after getting a vaccine. And please do not listen to the science-deniers on here. They will be the majority because this is an anti-vaxx subreddit but that does not mean they know anything.

With that history, your chance of getting a bad reaction is higher, maybe listen to your instincts? If you have a weak immune system, I'd suggest you work on nutrition, exercise, getting regular but not excessive sunlight for the red light benefits, etc to boost your immune system. Just because you are weak now does not mean you can't fix it.

So you get adequate vitamins and minerals in your diet? Sometimes the severity of illness is due to mild vitamin deficiencies. And some people are just more prone to infection
