I'm torn on whether or not from a fitness standpoint he can make it to '27 wc. I do think his playing style supports the current team setup but we also have a bunch of younger players in the pipeline...no doubt one of the most entertaining players to watch tho

Does he actually think he can play the 2027 wc, I mean I'd love to watch that but he'll be 39 by then......

I don't know why people think it's now or 2027 world cup. There are 2 yrs in between. If they hit a bad patch in form he and Kohli could and should be dropped from the team and it is on the selectors if they can't sideline these guys. Any player wants to fight for their place in the team and won't give up until they achieve their dream.

Calm down, guys. Rohit ain't gonna play till 2027.
Rohit will retire in his home ground, Wankhede, in a bilateral series.
He will definitely get a farewell match probably this year or next year.

For those saying Jaiswal won't any get games even though he's in red hot form, that's not necessarily true. Given that the WC is 2.5 years away, I doubt Rohit will play every ODI. Besides, the selectors need to select someone as a back-up opener, and they can't do that without giving Jaiswal any game time.
It's also possible that Rohit retires sometime in the next 2.5 years, even if it's a random, meaningless bilateral ODI. Maybe he prefers saying goodbye at his home ground lol.

Tbh he should have. Get out on a high and give space to line of youngsters who are waiting. Both roko should hang their boots from international cricket

He will definitely retire but probably some home series in Mumbai.
Makes no sense otherwise

All good with batting and congratulations on winning champions trophy but this was perfect opportunity to hang the boots, something our players need to learn from SENA players. They know when to quit.

Don’t judge the man by his age judge him by his captaincy and performances. If he keeps up his form he can play till 27 with ease

Brohit & Kohli don't really need to retire from ODIs if that's all they're playing. They're already gone from T20s, they probably shouldn't be in the test squad - Kohli could maybe continue if they want to keep one of the two, since he's got the fitness for it. But Brohit can lead a young side to win tournaments or be there as second in command with a fresh Captain to have a steady transition in ODIs.

Feel for jaiswal. Guy is in his prime only to see his potential getting wasted

Ready to get downvoted but Sharma and Kohli should retire from ODIs (and obviously shouldn't be picked for tests anymore). The next ODI World Cup is 2 and a half years away taking place at the end of 2027 when they will be 40 and 39. Although they are still top ODI batters you can see they are clearly way past their best. Even with Kohli his range of shots is decreasing and he struggles to hit as many boundaries / accelerate like he could in his prime. Retiring after winning the Champions Trophy would be the perfect way to bow out.
There isn't really consistent ODIs played each year too which makes it harder to maintain form. I really hope it's not a case of them going on too long hurting their ODI legacies but let's see.

I think he should play now. But they should think about giving captaincy to younger players. Or Bum Bum

Missed opportunity to go on a high. Rohit at 40 playing in Saf conditions wont end up as fairy tale ending. Holding back Jaiswal is also bad for Indian cricket.
I would rather him keep playing in T20 over ODI at age 38 despite his knock today.

It’s always about the individual not the team. India have a host of fun young guys coming through that keep getting pushed back cause the “legends” want to keep playing. Time to let the young superstars shine

Its time for Gill and Jaiswal. Kohli also should be conditional, I dont see the returns from Kohli are consistent enough to deserve a place now when he is 36+ and would be 39 at next world cup. Also Jadeja. He is going to be pretty useless in South Africa for 2027 WC not to mention age also 38 at the time.
We need to immediately build team for WC2027 , Jaiswal, Gill, Ruturaj?, Varma?, Iyer, Pant, Rahul, Pandya, Nitish?, Rinku Singh. We need to look past these PR inflated egoistic so called star players. They represent India and what matters is Indian team moves in direction which is best and puts team in best position. Despicable sceniors. These are most greedy and selfish players i have seen in last 30 years.

Either you die as a hero or live long enough to become a villain. This was the perfect time to retire given his age.
Since he’ll be 40 by the time of 2027wc, He should at least resign captaincy and give to younger players like Gill or Iyer just to make transition smoother and just in case his form becomes shit.

He is like us fans , nothing can give a closure for 19/11 . Winning champions trophy was amusing and somewhat pleasurable , but it is surely a cheap substitute

His call. He is giving us the starts that almost always blunts any chase. If not for his start today India would’ve lost. No questions.
I don’t feel qualified to comment on his fitness. I don’t feel qualified to comment on his age. As long as he is getting us to finals and winning them, he can stay as long as he wants.
