In case anyone is wondering:

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides food pantries, homeless shelters, senior living residences, affordable housing communities and other services in the Columbus, Ohio area. Lutheran Social Services was organized in 1912, and helps create a better world by serving people in need, particularly in the areas of food, clothing, and shelter. Through its Faith Mission, Lutheran Social Services has provided walk-in emergency shelter for homeless men and women in Columbus since 1966.
The Health Center at Faith Mission provides medical, dental, vision and behavioral health care services for people who experience homelessness or lack access to quality health care services. Located in downtown Columbus, the Health Center is designed to provide on-going care for people who experience homelessness, unstable housing, low income, and other challenges.
Grant funding from the federal government allows the Health Center to provide services on a sliding fee scale, making it affordable regardless of income level. Our doctors, nurses, dentists, social workers and optometrists are skilled professionals who provide high-quality care.
Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is a New Access Point awardee launching its Health Care for the Homeless program in 2017.

I'm a Lutheran pastor who also previously ran an immigration center for immigrants and refugees. These tweets show a fundamental misunderstanding in where the money comes from, how it is awarded, how it is used, and what the Lutheran Church stands for as a whole.

I don't have the energy or patience to write up a response to how wrong this all is right now. But a few things must be brought to light.

First off, there is no need for sarcastic quotes around Lutheran. We are a Christian denomination with a long and varied history of helping and loving our neighbor, standing up to tyrants, and managing money thoughtfully, ethically, and successfully. I specifically am an ELCA Lutheran, which is the largest Lutheran denomination that is theologically a very progressive church but it is a big tent church with members all across the spectrum. We never endorse candidates or tell our people how to vote.

LSS is a huge organization that helps millions across the country. The audits and most of the books are completely open for anyone to view. You can call your local branch and they would be so happy to tell you exactly where the money is going. All the LSS reps I know are huge financial nerds- you would seriously make there day if wanted to know about where the money is going right here in your local community.

Despicable, but predictable. I'm not a Christian, but I know that organization does a lot of good for people experiencing homelessness in our region.

I grew up Catholic, graduated from a Catholic high school, the whole nine yards.

I was taught from an early age that "go to Hell" is a *really* serious thing to say, to the point that it shouldn't be said at all. Even minced versions like "go with the Devil" were still bad.

These two can go to Hell.

I’m fine adjusting some funding and tax exemption status for churches that push political agendas (like that preacher at Trumps inauguration that launched a crypto coin the next day). But for the churches that actually help the needy and homeless, I don’t mind letting them have some money. Ideally the government would do this directly, but at least someone is doing something for our homeless.

Let’s tax those mega churches instead! There’s money to be made!

This is so shitty, but musk has no authority to do this, he is actively involved in a coup right now, and if we don’t demand he be stopped, we’re fucked for the lifetime of all of us on here. This is not legal!!!

They won’t rest until there are no social services left. Then they’ll bitch about all the destitute and probably make it illegal to be poor.
