I (43M) grew up in KY and living in a small town in the south it just felt like the only future was married with kids. I had no real desire to date because I felt like I had no future from dating other than marriage and kids. All those around me were getting married, having a kid, rinse, repeat. As I got older into my 20s it felt like I was at odds with my faith because it felt more and more like I was going to be expected to have kids once I married. It honestly ended several of my relationships because I knew I had no desire or will to ever have kids and the girl I was dating DID want them. Then, when I was 25, I met who would eventually become my wife. She too was a devout Christian, great upbringing from Christian parents, and we started hitting it off and started dating. About a month into the relationship we had "the talk". Can I tell you how freaking relieved we both were when we got to the topic of kids and realized we BOTH had the exact same desire/future? That NEITHER of us had any desire to EVER have kids!! To us, it was a true testament of God bringing us together. That we both were faithful and loved Christ, but both did NOT ever want children. So it was like God was like "Here, you two were meant for each other!". Now it's been 17 years of marriage, we live in Maui with our pets and our lives are amazing. Hope others have been like us, please share if you have! Glory to God!! Childfree lifestyle is great! :-)

This was encouraging to read, I'm glad you found your person and married her! I'm low-key hoping that due to the society we're living in now there'll be more childfree people popping up. As a Christian you feel like an anomaly when you don't want kids, so it's nice to hear stories like yours that show it's possible to find someone who is aligned in this way.

Every date I’ve been on I have been upfront about being childfree and made it super clear, I’d quickly move on if they showed any hint of wanting kids/ hiding that fact.
I met a man (now husband) at the age of 19 and was happy to have found my childfree match. We’ve been together for 10 years now and we are still happily childfree! I’m excited for our relaxing future togethor.

Yes such a beautiful example of God’s work. It can get discouraging when it comes to dating. The dating pool is so small I don’t feel motivated to try. But this really encouraged me to continue in faith and be patient.

This is wonderful! 😊 I'm a 36 y.o. woman, and I've only been on a few dates - it's been discouraging. Years ago, I decided to wait on the Lord, all things in His time, but I still feel like marriage will never happen. Marriage isn't necessarily the goal, though - I want to be married to the RIGHT man. Stories like this give me hope.

I love this :) I recently got into a short debate with someone on Facebook (never a good idea) who claimed to be a pastor that told me he "would caution me from mixing up my will with God's will for me," that to want kids is godly and by not accepting that for myself I'm denying myself God's richest blessing and denying him His will in my life. That there are many examples of people who didn't want God's chosen path for them and yet had to do it anyway.
It's really gotten into my head even though I firmly believe chosing whether or not to have kids is part of the free will God gives us. And yet I've always been afraid I'm disobeying God by not doing it. Everything he said played into those fears. I'm curious what other people's thoughts are?
(For the record, I think it's silly to tell someone they are denying themselves something if it's something they truly don't want.)
