My local British Heart Foundation shop was selling a secondhand IKEA table for £5 more than new in Ikea, I pointed it out to a member of staff who just shrugged and I said she didn’t do the pricing.

As always with these posts they just look online and see what people are selling them for.
Sometimes they're worth more than you'd image.
Sometimes it's chancers and the charity shop should have looked at sold prices rather than listed ones.
In this case this looks like an absolute bargain. You could buy and resell for a hefty % profit:

Inflation adjusted, that would date this mug to 2010

By sheer coincidence I was in an RSPCA charity shop earlier today and overheard a customer trying to barter with the person on the till.
The till volunteer pointed to a sign and read it out loud to the customer, it explained that they are given a guide of what prices to put on what items and are unable to change this without permission of a manager. Some charity shops have blanket price guides (such as all mugs £1.50) so I'm guessing this is what happened here.

They are used. I am told that used items attract a higher price.

It's ironic, yeah, but if it's no longer sold and a collector's item then it's a fair price.
